Counselling
Do you need to talk to someone who is independent?
"I realised I had waited too long to seek out a counsellor. Seeing someone who was not connected to me, and completely independent of my life really helped me to look at the deep issues inside." Sue "Approaching a counsellor is a strength not a weakness." Janet. "I reached out for support and it was such a relief for me." Sam. |
'Counselling and Psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing" BACP's definition of counselling and psychotherapy.

Don't worry if you're not sure about what to say.
The first step is making contact.

My specialist areas: Loss, Bereavement, Grief, Pet Bereavement, Self Esteem and Confidence issues; Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Long Term Health Problems, M.E/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Unemployment, Redundancy, Ex Military and PTSD, Adoption and Tracing Birth Parents.
You may not know what is bothering you and what brought you to counselling, however, within the therapeutic relationship we will work together so you can explore past or present issues at your own pace, so that over time you are able to become freer within, heal and make changes.
Over the past 25+ years I have worked privately, as well as within colleges, universities and therapy settings. My aim is for you to explore your issues in the safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment of the virtual counselling room - it is here where you can explore the issues that are troubling you. My training and background has been in person centred therapy and over the years I have become integrative, based on person centred principles. With all my training and skills, listening and holding the space for you is at the core of our time together. I also offer creative methods to support your journey; meditation and breathing exercises, EFT (tapping), and creative arts. This is all directed and guided by what you want and what your needs are. All at your pace and guided by you.

About Person Centred CounsellingAt the very root of all my sessions I am honouring the core conditions outlined and devised by Carl Rogers, founder of Person Centred Therapy. I work in a way that is very reflective, compassionate, insightful and genuine.
Person Centred means that I see you as the expert about yourself. I’m not here to advise or to provide you with solutions. I’m here to work alongside you. As you explore your own issues and find your own answers. Rogers believed that people had the ability to heal themselves if the right conditions were in place. "Humans are always in a transient state of being - they are always in a state of ‘becoming’." Carl Rogers |
The Person Centred model is rooted in the belief that experience is the most important guiding factor. Carl Rogers developed a way of being, a therapy, that is not about offering advice, but about acting as an instrument of change, being fully present with clients to explore their experiences and truths.
I am a Registered Member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their code of ethics. I am also fully insured.

I would just like to say thank you for your help and support over the past few months. Your knowledge and understanding has really given me strength. You always made me comfortable, which allowed me to speak honestly and openly about my feelings. You have a wonderful caring nature and I would not hesitate to recommend you to someone in need. Helen
I was able to let go of feeling of guilt and shame from past experiences and build my own self-esteem. I have become more connected with my true feelings and I understand that I can find all I need within and have no need to look within others for my happiness. Joanne
For me, I was offered a safe reliable environment where my day to day worries, concerns and problems were discussed openly and in confidence Julia, really listens and reacts in a non judgemental way. She doesn't give advice, she supports me to reach my own conclusions and realisations, working through issues myself without any prompting needed. No matter what, I felt assured I was fully supported and accepted. Chris
